#44 Partner spotlight: Landis & Gyr
50 opportunities for 50 years
The Landis & Gyr Foundation was established in 1971 by the Gyr family and the Landis & Gyr Group to mark the 75th anniversary of the company, which was founded in Zug in 1896. For the past 47 years, the Foundation has been supporting projects in culture and the humanities at a regional, Swiss and European level.
The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Bucharest, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987 and provides three to six months long work/live opportunities for at least ten Swiss artists per year.
Artists can apply annually in response to a call for applications and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. More than three hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians, and composers have benefitted from the programme since it’s inception.
“Without Acme, it would not have been possible to set up the LANDIS & GYR Foundation's residency programme in London. Thanks to Acme, more than 300 Swiss artists – authors, composers, curators, cultural critics, dancers, film-makers, theatre professionals and visual artists – have been able to spend an both personally and professionally inspiring, enriching and beneficial time in London over the past almost 40 years.” Nela Bunjevac - Director, Landis & Gyr
