Chadwell Studio Award
2011/12

Joss Cole is a painter interested in the threshold between literature and visual art. His work engages with visual and verbal puns and historical references to explore the ways in which poetry can be considered a key discourse in painting. He received his MA from Wimbledon College of Art, University Arts London in 2011.

Joss has exhibited at Ferens Open, Ferens Gallery Hull, 2020; Cole’s Gallery, Leeds, 2019; There is Another Sky, Granary Art Gallery, Western Park, 2018; Eureka! Open Arts Café, London, 2016; Bankside Gallery, Royal Watercolour Society, London, 2015.

Chadwell Studio Award

The Chadwell Studio Award was established by Andrew Post and Mary Aylmer, philanthropist art collectors, in memory of Andrew’s mother. The award was active between 2010 – 2014. It aimed to provide a bridge between art school and practice as a professional artist.

A recent Fine Art MA graduate received a rent-free studio at Childers Street, SE8, for 12 months together with a bursary of £5,000 jointly funded by Acme, and professional mentoring. The award was offered to students who are about to complete postgraduate courses, and different colleges were involved each year.
