Exploring the subliminal colours of both the natural and man-made world, Yukako’s work questions the complex interplay of light, shadow and colour, and the way in which we perceive these things.
Creating minimal and abstract forms, enquiring their infinite possibilities, Yukako paints their surfaces with complex layered gradations of colour that resist definition. Colour is integral to her work, and each negotiates the delicate relationship between colour, mass and space. The placement and viewing points of Yukako’s work are an important consideration, and the environment in which the work is located feeds into her creative process, with work and environment viewed as a whole
