Yeoh Choo Kuan

Khazanah Arts Residency
2022

Yeoh Choo Kuan is a Malaysian visual artist based in Kuala Lumpur, who works in the medium of painting, sculpture, and performance video installation. As a third generation ethnic subgroup of Chinese living in a young multicultural country, the constant flux of cultural identity redefinition very much informed the flexible stretch in his art practice.

For his Acme residency, Choo Kuan is composing landscape paintings into video, creating a Chinese screen installation as an open “stage”, and inviting movement artists and composers based in London for collaboration.

Khazanah Arts Residency
Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, in collaboration with Acme, developed the Khazanah Arts Residency Programme, a 12-week residency programme designed for emerging Malaysian artists based at Acme studios. An initiative under the Khazanah Residency Programme, the arts residency is an annual programme designed to develop and prepare young artists for the next growth phase in their professional careers. Typically, artists for this residency programme are nominated by galleries and residencies in Malaysia and subsequently selected by Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Acme.
