Sadie Chandler

Australia Council for the Arts Residency
1997

Sadie Chandler is an Australian artist living and working in Melbourne. Using painting and installation, Sadie interrogates the history and limitations of painting itself. She makes wallpapers, paintings and objects based on iconic images and objects from the media and museums: pin-up girls, portraiture and landscape images. She is compelled by these images, but also trapped by them – aware of the impossibility of forgetting this visual history to start afresh.

Recent solo exhibitions include: House Bound, Occasional Space, Melbourne (2020); Wall Drawing #32, Shepparton Art Museum (2018); Factorywork, Charles Nodrum Gallery, Melbourne (2017); Bloom, MOP Projects, Sydney (2004); Bodywork, The Studio, Sydney Opera House (2003); Sadie Chandler, Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia, Adelaide (1998).
