Ruth Waters

Goldsmiths MFA Award
2016/17

At the core of Ruth Waters’ practice is an interest in how ever-present pressures exerted upon us by late capitalist networked society affect our daily lives, and how this has impacted on our levels of anxiety. During her residency with Acme Ruth conducted Skype interviews with people who suffer from severe phobias, forming the basis of a new video work.

Ruth was selected by David Batchelor (artist), Adriana Paice (award donor, Artisa Foundation), Lea O'Loughlin (Acme) and Charlie Coffey (Acme).

Upon completing her residency in September 2017, Ruth presented SEEP at PEER alongside fellow early career programme artists Kristaps Ancāns, Caroline Streck and Josh Berry.

Goldsmiths MFA Award

The Goldsmiths MFA Award is a partnership between Acme and Goldsmiths, University of London, funded by Jane Hamlyn and Artisa Foundation in 2016/17. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
