Charlotte Hug

Aargauer Kuratorium Residency
2000

Charlotte Hug is a Swiss musician, composer, media artist, and visual artist.

In her work Charlotte blends viola and vocals using high falsetto, vibrating glottal sounds, multi-phonics, and language-like articulation. She seeks to develop instrumental and vocal techniques to form a unique tonal language. Hybrids of visual art and musical notation form the basis of Charlotte’s artistic work and research.

Charlotte has developed open concepts and conducted the SPIO São Paulo Improvisers Orchestra, and the KIO the Krakow Improvisers Orchestra. She has performed as soloist, composer and conductor at major festivals in Europe, the United States, Latin America, Canada, South Africa, Russia and China. Her works and room-scores have been played by the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Ensemble SuperMusique Montréal, Via Nova Choir Munich, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and the Dance Company FATC Johannesburg.
