Uwe Wittwer is a Swiss artist living and working in Zürich. He largely paints landscapes, cities, still lives, and portraits – condensed into three main themes: idyll, referential works, and the aftermath of violent conflict. Uwe’s references include the interiors and still lives of Dutch and French Masters such as Pieter de Hooch, Willem Kalf, Jean Siméon Chardin and Nicolas Poussin.
Uwe was a guest tutor at the Witten/Herdecke University, Germany (1998–2000) and at the Zeppelin University, Friedrichshafen, Germany (2010). Recent solo exhibitions have been held at: Galerie Peter Klichmann, Zürich; Kunsthaus Grenchen, Switzerland; Judin Gallery, Berlin; Parrafin Gallery, London; VOID, Derry; and SMAC, Cape Town. In 2013 two of his works were added to the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
