2004

André Bideau is an architectural theorist, historian and critic based in Zürich. He received as Master of Architecture from ETH Zürich and a PhD in Art History from Zürich University. He was research fellow at the Internationales Zentrum Kulturwissenschaften in Vienna before moving to the United States, teaching at Cornell, Harvard, and the Pratt Institute.

For five years, André was the editor of Werk, Bauen + Wohnen, a Swiss periodical about architecture and urbanism, and he currently serves as a board member and curator at Zentrum Architektur Zürich, founded in 2016. As a historian, Bideau has studied architecture production and the urban condition since 1968, notably in Germany. His contextualisation of the work of O.M. Ungers in West Berlin and Frankfurt, Architektur und symbolisches Kapital, was published in 2011 by Birkhäuser. His most recent research involves the legacy of architecture art historian André Corboz, whose work André presented in an exhibition at Biblioteca dell’Accademia di architettura in 2018.

Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Switzerland

The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987, and provides six month long work/live opportunities for ten Swiss artists per year. Artists are selected for the programme directly by Landis & Gyr Stiftung and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. Over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefitted from the programme. Residencies are based in Stepney, E1 and are available to Swiss residents only
