Dominic Dispirito

Adrian Carruthers Award
2017/18

Dominic Dispirito creates animations, paintings and sculptures that may on first glance appear simplistic, with a sketch-like rather than polished feel, but on closer inspection are revealed to be wittily observed and subtly sophisticated representations of the British working class. The simplicity of line within Dispirito’s paintings – faces are commonly reduced to bold blocks of only a few bright colours – invites visitors to reflect on the nature of society, at both a personal and universal level.

Dominic was selected for the 2017/18 Adrian Carruthers Award by a panel including the artist Peter Liversidge.

Dominic's works have been included in solo and group exhibitions at Annka Kultys Gallery, London; Arebyte Gallery, London; The Dot Project, London and Chalton Gallery, London.

Adrian Carruthers Award

The Adrian Carruthers Award is a partnership between Acme and the Slade School of Fine Art, funded by Acme and the Adrian Carruthers Memorial Fund. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
