Acme Studios — #33 Jonathan Harvey Tenant Award, 2024

Supporting Artists since 1972

#33 Jonathan Harvey Tenant Award, 2024

50 opportunities for 50 years

Founded in 2023, the Jonathan Harvey Tenant Award, named in honour of Acme’s Co-Founder Jonathan Harvey OBE, recognises Acme artist tenants who have made a long-term commitment to their arts practice. The award recognises the need to provide transformational support for artists at all stages of their careers.

This award offers an opportunity for an Acme artist tenant with a sustained practice of 30 years or longer to develop or make a step change in their practice. The award is open to all current Acme artist tenants, registered sharers and sub-letters. Applicants must be an Acme studio tenant, sub-letter or sharer as of 1 June 2023 to apply.

The Jonathan Harvey Tenant Award offers an artist fee of £5,000 and financial support towards the facilitation of the successful project up to a maximum of £7,000. In addition, support will be offered from Acme’s Residencies & Awards team over the 12-month period of the award, and Acme will provide marketing and communications assistance to support positive outcomes. The award artist will also have access to Acme’s career development programme which includes talks, group and artist crits, and practical skills development.

Filmmaker Chris Newby is the current award holder. For Chris, the award is “huge, it’s like getting a blood transfusion. A lot of the time you think that no-one’s taking any notice, and you’re working, you’re doing the best you can.”

“This opportunity in particular is really important, I would say, because it’s for older artists... Of course, it’s great that all artists are helped but there’s an assumption that anyone over a certain age is either teaching with a secure income or are successful financially. But they’re not.”

Acme are seeking imaginative, impactful and achievable proposals which Acme can help support and facilitate, via sustained engagement with our Residencies & Awards team over a 12-month period from 1 Jan 2024 (with an additional 6 months for project outcomes).

Deadline for Applications is  Sunday 20 August 2023.
