Leah Capaldi

Fire Station Residency
2015-2020

Leah Capaldi was born in Chertsey in 1985 and currently lives and works in London.

The crossover area between the disciplines of sculpture and performance are of particular interest to Leah’s practice, with echoes of the seminal performance work of the late 1960s and early 70s. Exploring the pivotal relationship between object or subject, Leah’s work encourages the audience to question themselves in relation to the work, playing with notions of surveillance and spectatorship.

Leah has shown at Matt’s Gallery, Serpentine, ICA, Zabludowicz Collection and Site Gallery, as well as international exhibitions in South Korea, Germany and Holland. She was a finalist for the Catlin Prize, winner of the Exposure Prize at Parasoul Unit and was awarded The Arts Foundation Sculpture and the Gerston/Zevi Land Art travelling residency.

Fire Station Residency 2015-2020

Acme's residency at the Fire Station is one of the most directly supportive schemes for artists in the United Kingdom, providing combined studio and living space at low rents, as well as a half rent residency for a deaf or disabled artist. This five year fixed-term residency scheme is intended to allow artists more time to concentrate on the development of their work and professional careers, and less time working to survive. 2015-2020 residents were selected by former Acme Residency and Projects Manager Julia Lancaster, and artists and former Fire Station residents Erika Tan and Ben Cove.
