Aaron Wells

Chelsea BA Studio Award
2014/15

Aaron Wells makes film and video works that explore the illusory nature of images and language within cinema, media and the everyday. Aaron's work deconstructs the cinematic viewing experience through the interplay of narrative, image and observation.

After completing his award in September 2015, Aaron presented Relentless Optimism, a Moment of Blindness Before and After the Dark Space, an exhibition of film work at the Acme Project Space. The exhibition dealt with themes of allegory, passivity and unfounded optimism, exploring problems attached to the contemporary fantasy of ‘the good life,’ while simultaneously critiquing the essential state of living within the present.

Chelsea BA Studio Award

The Chelsea BA Award was a partnership between Acme and Chelsea College (University of the Arts, London), funded by Chelsea Arts Club Trust and Acme, between 2009-17. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award included a bursary, rent-free studio space and mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
