Yves Charuest

Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) Residency
2017

Montreal-based saxophonist Yves Charuest has been active since the 1980s in the fields of creative and improvised music. Yves devotes his creative energy to improvisation in varying forms. In collective situations as well as in solo, his approach is characterised by his sense of form and his attention to sonic properties as well as the formal potential of the material he works with.

A member of the Peter Kowald Trio (1985–1990), he has also played with musicians from all over the world, such as William Parker, Agustí Fernández, Nate Wooley, Georg Graewe, Roscoe Mitchell, Lê Quan Nin, Dominic Lash, Mark Sanders, Steve Noble, Richard Scott and Audrey Chen.

Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ)

In 2008-2009, in partnership with Québec's Ministry of Culture and Communications and the Ministry of International Relations and the Francophonie, and on the recommendation of Arts Council England, Conseil des arts et des lettres (CALQ) approached Acme to establish the Québec Studio in London, thereby expanding the network of residencies offered abroad to Québec artists and writers. The residency provides two six month long residencies per year in Bow, E3 for artists who have at least 10 years' experience of professional practice. Applications and selection are undertaken directly by CALQ.
