Kirsten Coelho

Australia Council for the Arts Residency
2007

Kirsten Coelho is a ceramic artist based in Adelaide, Southern Australia. Kirsten works largely in porcelain, producing reduction fired works that fuse the formal and the abstract. Her work is inspired by the forms and rich social histories of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century enamel wares. Her ceramics attempt to convey some of this domestic history by highlighting the potential abstractions that arise on the surface through their use and subsequent deterioration, and through the use of high fire glazes that offer up rich visual surfaces and tonal possibilities.

Recent solo exhibitions include: Passages, Sullivan+Strumpf, Singapore (2020); Ithaca, Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art, University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia (2020); Philip Bacon Galleries, Queensland, Australia (2018). Kirsten’s work is held in the following public collections: Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Derbyshire; Boymans Van Beuningen Stichting Museum, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art, Adelaide, Australia; and Hanyang University Museum Gallery, Seoul, South Korea.
