Gillian White

Landis & Gyr Stiftung Residency
1999

Gillian White is a British artist working in Switzerland. She has become well-known in the Swiss art scene for her public commissions – creating large-scale artworks for public spaces and artworks on building facades. Over the years, she has also created numerous small sculptures, paintings and sketches alongside her large-scale installations. Every one of her works is the product of her continuous and passionate pursuit of an ultimate consummation of form.

Notable solo exhibitions include: at Bad Saeckingen park and Willa Berberich (2014); Kunsttankstelle Doettingen (2012); Erwin Rehmann Museum, Laufenburg (2010); Gallery Staffelbach, Zürich (2010); and a retrospective at the Kunstmuseum Olten (2009). In 2008, Gillian received the Hans Thoma Award from the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, and in 2011 she was awarded the prize of the Bräunlich-Bieser Foundation.

Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Switzerland

The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987, and provides six month long work/live opportunities for ten Swiss artists per year. Artists are selected for the programme directly by Landis & Gyr Stiftung and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. Over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefitted from the programme. Residencies are based in Stepney, E1 and are available to Swiss residents only
