Noel Paine

Fire Station Residency
2000-2005

Noel Paine is a British artist based between Lazio, Italy and Vienna, Austria. Noel works predominantly as a landscape painter, working both in the studio and en plein air. He works from drawings and sketches completed outside, completing large oil paintings in his studio. His paintings are widely recognised for their distinctive figuration, yet the themes and ideas behind the paintings remain conceptually abstract.

Recent exhibitions include: Green Horizon, Graz Airport (2020); A Deep Breath, Artrmx Gallery, Cologne (2019); Nature at its Best, Galerie Straihammer & Seidenschwann, Vienna (2019); Mutated Landscapes, Trinity Art Gallery, London (2019); Garten Eden, Percholdsdorf (2019); Still Time, Gallery 54, London (2019).

Fire Station Residency 2000-2005

Acme's residency at the Fire Station is one of the most directly supportive schemes for artists in the United Kingdom, providing combined studio and living space at low rents, as well as a half rent residency for a deaf or disabled artist. This five year fixed-term residency scheme is intended to allow artists more time to concentrate on the development of their work and professional careers, and less time working to survive. 2000-2005 residents were selected by Angela Kingston (curator), David Panton (Co founder of Acme), Damien Robinson (artist and administrator), and Lindsay Seers (artist).
