Daisy Young

Jonathan Harvey Award
2017/18

Daisy Young is a sculptor interested in the life span of objects. Daisy often chooses to work with materials that have a short lived permanence; leaving clay unfired, allowing it to be reclaimed and used again or returned to the earth. Staging is an important element as it allows a conversation to be formed between the objects, as if they are all part of a larger play or production.

Daisy was selected for the 2017/18 Jonathan Harvey Award by Jane Hayes Greenwood (artist and Director of Block 336), Chris Jermyn (award donor, Tomart Foundation), Hannah Corbett (former Chief Executive, Acme) and Charlie Coffey (Residencies & Awards Programme Manager, Acme). She was selected from a shortlist of six BA graduate artists from Camberwell College of Arts, Chelsea College of Arts and Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts London.

Jonathan Harvey Award

The Jonathan Harvey Award was a partnership between Acme, the Tomart Foundation and University of the Arts London between 2016-2019. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award included a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
