Manu Meier

Aargauer Kuratorium Residency
2024

Manu Meier lives and works in Basel, Switzerland. In her artistic practice she deals with the acoustic nature of our everyday environment. The characteristic, rather inconspicuous sound signature of places and circumstances is investigated, analyzed and reinterpreted compositionally. She works mainly in the field of sound ecology with field recordings and soundscape recordings from urban environments and biodiversity. In her projects she explores the spatial dimension of sound. From this emerge multi-channel compositions, which are shown as individual pieces, as sculptural, interactive or multi-media installations also as live performances. With her work she wants to contribute to the shaping of the future soundscape. Her focus is on urban acoustics in the fields of digitalization, society, technology and biodiversity. By means of a transdisciplinary work from these areas, she wants to make a statement for a better and above all more conscious listening culture.

Manu's works were shown in 2022 at Ars Electronica in Linz (A), at Open Garden in Salzburg (A), as well as in 2020 as part of the Art Week for Climate Protection at GEDOK in Karlsruhe (D) and in 2015 during the ZeitRäume Festival in Basel (CH). Her latest works will be showed in 2023 at the Kunsthaus Pasquart in Biel (CH), again at Ars Electronica in Linz (A) and at the Sonic Matter Festival in Zurich (CH).
