Vivienne Joyce Binns is an Australian artist known for her contribution to the Women's Art Movement in Australia and her active advocacy within community arts. She works predominantly in painting and teaches at the Australian National University, Canberra.
In the late 1960s, Vivienne began to produce paintings with a bold, psychedelic aesthetic, and is known for her position on identity as an Australian artist within local and European histories in the Asia Pacific region. Her interests are in the function of art making as a human activity, and the manifestations of this throughout social environments. Originating with an emphasis on patterning and surface treatments, Vivienne’s studio-based painting practice has continued to be a focus in the past ten years.
During the 1970s, Vivienne helped found the Women’s Art Movement in Sydney, and from 1972, she has developed her practice in urban, suburban and rural communities throughout Australia. The best-known projects from this period are Mothers’ Memories Others’ Memories (1979–81) and Full Flight. In 1983, Vivienne was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to the arts and crafts. She was also awarded the Ros Bower Award – Community Partnerships, for visionary contribution to community arts in 1985.

Since 1992, the Australia Council for the Arts has partnered with Acme to provide London work/live residency opportunities for Australian visual artists. These residencies are located at Acme's Fire Station in Poplar, E14. Application and selection is undertaken directly by the Australia Council for the Arts.
