Susan Jacobs
Australia Council for the Arts Residency
2017
Susan Jacobs’ practice focuses on the nuances of physical forces and material properties, through sculpture, site responsive works, video and drawing. Susan’s works allow the affordances of natural materials to be held in tension with the urge to transform them. They draw from cultural, scientific, and historical references, bringing latent associations to the surface to play out underlying ecological and psychological narratives.
Susan has exhibited at Macintosh Lane, London (2019); Viva Incerteza - the 32nd São Paulo Bienal, Brazil (2016); Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne (2015); The National Gallery of Victoria (2013); The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial, Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (2012); Adelaide Biennale of Australian Art, Art Gallery of South Australia (2012); Die Ecke, Santiago, Chile (2010); Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2010); Sarah Scout Presents, Melbourne (2010, 2015). Susan has received several significant grants, residencies and awards including a MacDowell Colony Fellowship, USA (2014) and The Australia Council for the Arts Fellowship (2020-2021).
