Rita Evans
Stephen Cripps Studio Award
2014/15
Rita Evans has a background in improvisational music performance and makes drawings, sculpture and sound. She received her MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her playable electro-acoustic instruments recall ancient musical instruments and aquatic life forms. Rita’s work is performed solo and in collaboration as Scratch Orchestra, to create soundscapes and performances that reference the ritualistic and hypnotic processes of artisan labour.
Rita has been commissioned by Late at Tate, St Ives, and her work has been presented at The Bomb Factory, Five Years Gallery, Chisenhale Dance Space, and Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity. She was awarded the Canada Council for the Arts, Digital Originals, 2020, and Ontario Arts Council Multi & Inter-Arts Grant for Coil of Days, 2019.
