Josh Berry

Adrian Carruthers Award
2016/17

Josh Berry makes sculptural work which engages with concerns surrounding materiality and weight. Josh's work is often derived from his sense of play, and an instinct to toy with the liminal space between the known and unknown. His focus begins with the tangible world, working with ubiquitous objects, building materials and things designed for utility. Josh invites us to engage with his re-reading of these items from their commonplace existence into objects of more significant potential.

Upon completing his award in September 2017, Josh presented SEEP at PEER alongside fellow early career programme artists Kristaps Ancāns, Caroline Streck and Ruth Waters.

Adrian Carruthers Award

The Adrian Carruthers Award is a partnership between Acme and the Slade School of Fine Art, funded by Acme and the Adrian Carruthers Memorial Fund. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
