Gabriela Stöckli is the managing director of Translation House Looren, a residency dedicated to literary translation in Switzerland. At Looren, she is a host for literary translators of all language combinations and from around the world. She advocates for literary translation as an artistic practice and for better visibility and working conditions for translators. With the Looren team, she runs a programme of ongoing professional training, residency grants as well as public readings and talks on translation.
Gabriela has studied Latin American literature and has translated children's books from Spanish into German. She is interested in multilingualism, cross-disciplinary artistic practice and in creating cultural experiences for a diverse audience. She is also a team member of LOVE**WORK, a long-term performative project by Arnold & Komarov Travelling Theatre. She lives in Zurich.
Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Switzerland
The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987, and provides six month long work/live opportunities for ten Swiss artists per year. Artists are selected for the programme directly by Landis & Gyr Stiftung and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. Over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefitted from the programme. Residencies are based in Stepney, E1 and are available to Swiss residents only
