Eric Hattan
Aargauer Kuratorium Residency
2005
Eric Hattan is a Swiss artist based in Basel and Baulmes. Eric works across conceptual, video, and performance art. Departing from concrete objects and spaces, his works question the places, architecture and situations of everyday life by breaking the stasis of the world with playful irony. The rearrangement of clothing, furniture, pedestals or monitors plays a decisive role in his oeuvre, drawing the viewer’s attention to the potential of plastic forms.
Alongside the percussionist Julian Sartorius, Eric has developed the performance Chaises musicales, which the duo have staged in various venues including Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe (2019); Musée des Beaux-Arts, Nancy (2019); Musée Jenisch, Vevey (2017); Kolumba, Köln (2016); and Café Oto, London (2016). Recent exhibitions include: Entlang, Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe (2019); Distant Loop, Kunstraum Baden (2019); Billy Meets Silly, Le Cabanon/East.EPFL, Lausanne (2018); Individuell, Kolumba, Köln (2017); and Situer la différence, Silvia Bächli Eric Hattan, Centre culturelle Suisse, Paris (2017).
