Carla Filipe’s practice is anchored in drawing, though her exhibitions combine the use of watercolour, collage, fabric and object-based installation. She studied Fine Arts - Sculpture at Faculdade de Belas-Artes (Universidade do Porto), and has a master's degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices from the same institution.
Carla's solo shows include The day is coming, Galeria Múrias Centeno, Lisbon, Portugal (2016), The works comes through by rhythmic theory, Galeria Múrias Centeno at Focus Section, Frieze Art Fair, London (2016), da cauda à cabeca, curated by Pedro Lapa, Museu Coleção Berardo, Lisbon (2014), Comer papel mastigado – o desejo de compreender o velho continente para cuspir a sua história curated by João Mourão and Luís Silva, Galeria Múrias Centeno, Zona Maco Sur, Mexico City (2015).
Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian
The Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian is a Portuguese philanthropic private institution whose statutory aims are in the fields of arts, charity, education and science. Created by a clause in Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian’s will, the Foundation’s statutes were approved in 1956. The Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian partnered with Acme between 2008 – 2010 to provide residencies that were located in East London. Application and selection was undertaken directly by the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
