Briony Anderson
Fire Station Residency
2008-10
Briony Anderson draws upon and reworks pre-existing landscape images into paintings which focus on how landscape is represented and written about. In borrowing images as sources, mainly historical paintings, the traditions of landscape painting are the subject, rather than the observed natural world. Working mostly on paper, paintings are often part of ongoing series which hover somewhere between actual, imagined and idealised landscape.
Exhibitions of her work have been presented at the Royal Society of Edinburgh/Edinburgh Art Festival, EB&Flow Gallery, London, Fleming Collection, London, Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, Berloni Gallery, London, The University of Aberdeen and Acme Project Space, London. Residencies include: Cove Park, Argyll and Bute, Cill Rialaig Arts Centre, Co. Kerry, Dublin Fire Station and Berloni Gallery, London.
Fire Station Residency 2010-2015
Acme's residency at the Fire Station is one of the most directly supportive schemes for artists in the United Kingdom, providing combined studio and living space at low rents, as well as a half rent residency for a deaf or disabled artist. This five year fixed-term residency scheme is intended to allow artists more time to concentrate on the development of their work and professional careers, and less time working to survive. 2005 - 10 artists were selected by artists Hayley Newman, Erika Tan and Julie Umerle, art consultant Tessa Jackson, and Acme's founder and former Chief Executive Jonathan Harvey.
