Barbara von Flüe
Landis & Gyr Stiftung Residency
2022
Barbara von Flüe is a curator and art historian with a focus on contemporary art. She works as a curator at the Museum Kolumba in Cologne, Germany. Her exhibitions revolve around social and societal issues and seek contact with other disciplines such as (religious) ethnology, literature or dance.
She is interested in the widely discussed questions regarding the role of museums in today's society, and her work looks at collections from a contemporary postcolonial perspective. Her previous projects include exhibitions with Anna & Bernhard Blume, Eric Hattan, Bethan Huws, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker/Rosas, Achim Lengerer, Michael Oppitz and Richard Tuttle, as well as Science & Fiction. Artistic Practices in Dialogue with the Sciences and The subtle Interplay Between the I and the Me. Art and Choreography.
Barbara is utilising her stay in London for field research and reading to engage with sustainable museum practices and to critically explore the handling of so-called “African Art” in museums here. She wants to decelerate her way of living and working in this (free) space in order to reflect on institutional habits and to design new (working) relationships characterised by slowness, softness, mindfulness and permeability.
