Sophie Jodoin
Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) Residency
2014
Sophie Jodoin practice questions manifestations of femininity, intimacy, loss, absence, and language. Sophie’s research probes the plural identities of the body in relation to cultural, political, material, visual, and written tropes. Her work takes a conceptual approach to the body as a subject and focusses on drawing as a practice that unfolds through installation, collage, photography, text, video, and the re-contextualization of found objects.
Sophie has received several awards including the Giverny Capital Art Prize and the Louis Comtois Prize (2017) and a Canada Council for the Arts research and creation grant (2019). The artist’s work has been presented in Canada, the United States and Europe, in museums, public and private galleries, as well as at international fairs, such as Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Québec (2019), Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides, Saint-Jérôme, Québec (2018), MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie, Ontario, (2018).

The residency provides two six month long residencies per year in Bow, E3 for artists who have at least 10 years' experience of professional practice. Applications and selection are undertaken directly by CALQ.
