Raphael Ureider is a Swiss poet, translator and musician.

Raphael has composed music for a number of plays, including Elfriede Jelinek’s Sportstück in 2003. As a vernacular rapper he has produced four albums with the hip-hop group LDeeP, frequently using word games in his texts.

His first volume of poetry, Light in Menlo Park, was published in 2000, followed by Kobold and the Kunstpfeifer (2002), The Opposite of Meat (2003), All Your Names: Poems of Love and Debauchery (2008). Raphael has also translated plays, including Joanna Laurens’s Five Gold Rings and Poor Beck, and Lavinia Greenlaw’s collection of poetry Minsk.

In 1999, he received the Arbeitsstipendium des Deutschen Literaturfonds, as well as the Leonce-und-Lena-Preis from the city of Darmstadt. Other prizes include the Förderpreis des Bremer Literaturpreises (2001); the 3sat Award at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition (2002); and the Clemens-Brentano-Preis (2004). In 2009, he received the Schillerpreis for All Your Names.

Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Switzerland

The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987, and provides six month long work/live opportunities for ten Swiss artists per year. Artists are selected for the programme directly by Landis & Gyr Stiftung and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. Over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefitted from the programme. Residencies are based in Stepney, E1 and are available to Swiss residents only
