Lisa-Marie Harris is a contemporary artist from Trinidad & Tobago, living and working in London. Her work pursues the idea of body as object, with concerns around reproduction, lineage, and personal histories guiding a consideration of what the absence of a body could mean, alongside the breaking-apart and putting-together of its form. Body is positioned as the contested space one owns; notions around how we dehumanise, assimilate, and commoditise the body are picked apart, and reconstituted.
Shortlisted for the Ingram Prize (2021). Recipient of the Jane Carole Clarke Memorial Award (2020). Recent exhibitions include London Grads Now, Saatchi Gallery, London UK (2021), Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival, Granderson Lab, Belmont, TT (2021), What Have we Done? Lethaby Gallery, London, UK, (2021) Final Not Over...Again, Unit1 Gallery, London, UK (2021), I Promise You, Apiary Studio, London, UK (2020), SALE (The Hair Shop), Tate Exchange, London, UK (2020), Homeward Bound Alexandra Park, London, UK (2020). Her work has recently been acquired by the UAL Arts Collection.
Lisa-Marie was selected for the 2021/22 Helen Scott Lidgett Award by a panel including the artist Abbas Zahedi and Paul Bayley (Head of Residencies & Awards, Acme) from a shortlist of six MFA graduate artists at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.
Helen Scott Lidgett Award
The Helen Scott Lidgett Award is a partnership between Acme, Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London), Art Academy of Latvia and the family of Helen Scott Lidgett. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
