Greta Davies
Adrian Carruthers Award
2018/19
Greta Davies makes site-specific installations and works in a multitude of media including: paint, print, digital photography, stop motion and projection.
Her work is a graphic exploration of space that particularly examines the architectural volumes and voids in our everyday lives that are often overlooked or unnoticed. Through use of lines, patterns and optical illusion, the work invites the viewer to notice these spaces and observe them in a new light, opening them up to new experiences and playfully questions how her interventions and the space are viewed.
Greta was selected for the 2018/19 Adrian Carruthers Award by the artist Jo Bruton, Lea O’Loughlin (Head of Residencies & Awards, Acme) and Charlie Coffey (Residencies & Awards Programme Manager, Acme) from a shortlist of six MA graduate artists from the Slade, University of London.
After completing her award in September 2019, Greta presented Out of Shape at PEER alongside fellow early career programme artists Rain Howard and Marylyn Molisso, whose practices also centre on large-scale installation and sculpture.
Adrian Carruthers Award
The Adrian Carruthers Award is a partnership between Acme and the Slade School of Fine Art, funded by the Adrian Carruthers Memorial Fund and Acme. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
