Elizabeth LeMoine
Fire Station Residency
2001-2005
Elizabeth LeMoine is a Canadian artist living and working in London. She works impulsively in response to personal recollections and seemingly irrelevant or insignificant details of experience and perception which are stimulated by her surroundings and day-to-day life. Although somewhat autobiographical, her works represent a play of significance against insignificance, reverie coexisting with mundane reality, and a recognition of how an individual sustains an awareness of a seemingly disparate yet inter-related set of cultural references and elements.
Recent solo exhibitions include: That Shadow of Yours Must be Such a Comfort to You, Sadler's Wells Theatre, London (2002), Ikebana, This Is Gallery, Sapporo, Japan (2000); Hello, it’s me, YYZ Artist’s Outlet, Toronto, Canada (1999); Pardon, Acte de naissance, L’H du seige, Valenciennes, France (1999); San Fairy Anne, Camac, Marnay-sur-Seine, France (1999); Funny, Warm, Scary, Economist Building, London (1998); some where else, Neutral Ground, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada (1998); of memory, University of Leeds Gallery, Leeds, UK (1997).
Fire Station Residency 2000-2005
Acme's residency at the Fire Station is one of the most directly supportive schemes for artists in the United Kingdom, providing combined studio and living space at low rents, as well as a half rent residency for a deaf or disabled artist. This five year fixed-term residency scheme is intended to allow artists more time to concentrate on the development of their work and professional careers, and less time working to survive. 2000-2005 residents were selected by Angela Kingston (curator), David Panton (Co founder of Acme), Damien Robinson (artist and administrator), and Lindsay Seers (artist).
