Armin Senser
Landis & Gyr Stiftung Residency
2007
Armin Senser is a Swiss poet and author based in Berlin. Armin’s early poetry appeared in the anthologies: Swiss Made: Young Literature from German-Speaking Switzerland (2001) and The Swiss Of Course! (2002). Armin’s poems are composed in a kind of ‘lyrical essayism’ that begins with a particular image or feeling. His works are intertextual: his first collection comprised of a thought poem for Joseph Brodsky and a letter to W. H. Auden, in Century of Calm (2003) one finds references to Ovid, Schiller and Mandelstam, and in Love life (2015) the narrator engages in a dialogue with Dante Alighieri and pays homage to Caravaggio, Warhol and Virgil.
Armin has also published a novel, Shakespeare (2011) - a fictitious biography written in long rhyming lines – and a collection of essays, Priests and Ironists: On Literature (2015). He is the recipient of many awards, including the Buchpreis des Kantons Bern, the H.C. Artmann-Stipendium of the City of Salzburg and the Poesiepreis des Kulturkreises der deutschen Wirtschaft.
