Thomas Kern trained as a photographer in Zürich and started working as a photojournalist in 1989. A central theme of his work has been the effects of war and conflict on everyday life. He has worked in Northern Ireland, Kurdistan, the former Yugoslavia and Haiti.
Thomas was a founder of the Swiss photographer’s agency Lookat Photos in 1990. Thomas has twice won a World Press Award and has been awarded several Swiss national scholarships. His work has been widely exhibited and is represented in various collections.
Aargauer Kuratorium, Switzerland
Aargauer Kuratorium has worked in partnership with Acme to develop and provide a London-based artists' residency since 1999. Based in Bow, E3, the residency enables a wide spectrum of practitioners connected with the Canton of Aargau, Switzerland, to undertake two six month long work/live residencies per year. Artist application and selection are conducted directly by Aargauer Kuratorium.
