1996
Sunniva McAlinden is a visual artist based in Stockholm. Her practice is involved in extending and redefining painting. With emphasis on the articulation of colour as medium, symbol, space, and sensation, she primarily works with painting, three-dimensional constructions and installation. She has investigated the modernist dogma, examined the grid, redressed minimalist aesthetics, painted the fold, constructed follies, and tackled the function of ornament.
Solo shows include a major presentation at Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2008). Group exhibitions include at Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo, and at Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm. Public art commissions include the stage curtain for the main auditorium of Moderna Museet Stockholm (1998), and large wall mosaics for the Odenplan station, Stockholm City Line Public Transport (2017). Her work is represented in major public collections in Sweden.
