Sharyn Woods
Australia Council for the Arts Residency
2006
Sharyn Woods is an Australian artist. Her practice is wide-ranging, including studio-based production of sculptures and drawings, temporary gallery-based and outdoor installations, permanent public art commissions and components designed for urban and streetscape applications.
Sharyn’s sculptural work is essentially abstract and is characterised by an emphasis on the inherent properties of materials and processes. She seeks to create a balance between the raw qualities of her materials and their sophisticated formal arrangements, often utilising unusual applications and techniques.
A major sculptural work was developed for GASP! (Glenchory Art and Sculpture Park) in 2012, following other public installations including Divide and Rule and Protect the Standing at the Greening Australia Sculpture trail and the permanent memorial More sinned against than sinning at the Convict Women’s Prison Site in Hobart.
