Lorraine Neeson

Adrian Carruthers Award
2005/6

Lorraine Neeson is an Irish artist and lecturer in Photography and Lens Based Media at Limerick School of Art and Design. Lorraine works primarily with len-based media, light, sound, video installation and architectural intervention, to create phantasmagoric environments that disrupt and disorient spatial and temporal logic. A fundamental theme is the simultaneous representation of conflicting states of revelation and obliteration. Strategies of inversion and reversal and the implementation of dislocating devices are employed, to invoke intrigue within environments where visual and aural interruptions are manifested as shifting shadows, as light and sound from unexpected sources and as implied thresholds and portals that simultaneously entice and impede.

Recent exhibitions include: I See a Darkness, Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin (2015); Backwards into Paradise, FLOOD, Dublin (2013); Repetition, Monster Truck and Cross Gallery, Dublin (2013); Future Perfect, The Hugh Lane Gallery (2013); Day for Night, Butler Gallery, Kilkenny (2012); A Certain Slant of Light, Triskel @ESB Substation, Cork (2010).

Adrian Carruthers Award

The Adrian Carruthers Award is a partnership between Acme and the Slade School of Fine Art, funded by the Adrian Carruthers Memorial Fund and Acme. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
