Kypros Kyprainou

Fire Station Residency
1997-2001

Kypros Kyprianou is a multi-media artist. Kyrpros works both as a solo artist and in collaboration with Simon Hollington. The pair produce installations, videos, publications, performance and site-specific interventions, aimed at willfully disturbing competing histories, subjectively comparing and combining elements to create new narratives that are simultaneously funny and un-nerving.

Kypros’s solo and collaborative work has been shown widely, including at the Tate Modern, ICA in London, the Arnolfini in Bristol, as well as at the 51st Venice Biennale. Solo/two person shows include: Gravity versus Reason, BBQ Projects, Berlin (2001); The Invisible Force Field Experiments, Artsway, New Forest (2005); A Scientific Accident Investigation Group Report Into the Invisible Force Field Experiments, ICA, London (2005) and Mop Projects, Sydney, Australia (2005); Goodbye Vile Earth!, at South Hill Park (2008);The Allenheads Findings, ACA, Northumberland (2011); and What A Carve up!, PHP London (2012). Group shows include: ArtPlatform LA, Paul Young Projects, Los Angeles (2011); Visions in the Nunnery, Bow, London (2000); Con Art, Site Gallery, Sheffield (2002); Prog: Me, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2005); Nuclear: Art & Radioactivity, at the Nicholls & Clarke building, City of London (2008); and Adams & Smith, auctioneers of late-capitalist era artefacts, Arnolfini, Bristol (2009).

Fire Station Residency 1997-2001

Acme's residency at the Fire Station is one of the most directly supportive schemes for artists in the United Kingdom, providing combined studio and living space at low rents, as well as a half rent residency for a deaf or disabled artist. This fixed-term residency scheme is intended to allow artists more time to concentrate on the development of their work and professional careers, and less time working to survive. 1997-2001 residents were selected by artists Tracy McKenna, Cornelia Parker, Adam Reynolds, and Acme co-founder Jonathan Harvey.
