Iris Szeghy is a composer based in Zürich. Iris received her doctorate in composition from the Academy of Performing Arts, Bratislava. She writes compositions for orchestral, chamber and vocal music, which are performed in concerts and festivals internationally.
Iris has received commissions from The Hilliard Ensemble, the Bratislava Music Festival, Festival Melos-Ethos, and The Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia Cultural Foundation. She received the 2007 Swiss Music Award, 2010 Zollikon Art Prize, 2014 Werkjahr, Zürich, and was composer in residence at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart, 1993, and the Staatsoper Hamburg, 1995. Iris was a visiting composer at University of California, San Diago, 1994, and was awarded composer residencies at the Cite International des Arts, 2012, Landis & Gyr Foundation, London and Budapest. She has collaborated with the London Sinfonietta, Concorde Contemporary Music Ensemble, Gemini Ensemble, Contemporary Music for All (CoMA), Ensemble Musikfabrik, Camerata Berne, and Festival Strings Lucerne.
Landis & Gyr Stiftung, Switzerland
The Landis & Gyr foundation awards studio scholarships to Swiss artists and cultural professionals in London, Budapest, Sofia and Zug. Its London-based residency partnership with Acme was established in 1987, and provides six month long work/live opportunities for ten Swiss artists per year. Artists are selected for the programme directly by Landis & Gyr Stiftung and must demonstrate a track record of achievement in their field. Over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefitted from the programme. Residencies are based in Stepney, E1 and are available to Swiss residents only
