Matilde Araoz Ellis

Goldsmiths MFA Award
2025

Matilde Araoz Ellis is an Anglo-Bolivian artist based in London. Her practice spans across sound, moving-image and sculpture to investigate memory, identity and place, rooted in personal experiences and a research-driven approach. She creates immersive environments that challenge conventional narratives within the intersections of human and non-human worlds and relationships between them. She often reimagines the past to explore speculative futures. By engaging with ideas of presence, absence and transformation, she seeks to blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, inviting viewers to reconsider how collective and personal histories shape our understanding of the present and the possible future that emerge from it.

Goldsmiths MFA Award

The Goldsmiths MFA Award is a partnership between Acme, Goldsmiths, University of London and Jane Hamlyn. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
