Anna Malicka is a multimedia artist born and based in Rīga. She creates textile work, drawings on paper and audio-visual content. Anna layers her interest in scribbled abstraction, handicrafts, everyday aesthetics and youth culture to construct imaginary spaces. Her latest work, uNrEaL EsTaTe Agency is a fictitious institution that houses creative processes, spatial modulations and a need for a place.
Anna was selected for the 2023/24 Helen Scott Lidgett Award by a panel including including the artist Rosa-Johan Uddoh from a shortlist of six MFA graduate artists at Art Academy of Latvia.
Helen Scott Lidgett Award
The Helen Scott Lidgett Award is a partnership between Acme, Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London), Art Academy of Latvia and the family of Helen Scott Lidgett. Aiming to provide a bridge between art school and professional practice, the award includes a generous bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme. Recipients of Acme’s Early Career Awards Programme work from shared studios in order to encourage an environment of peer support and critical dialogue.
