Born in Salvador, Brazil in 1963, Vanila Netto has lived in Australia since 1987. Her practice includes photography, sculpture, drawing and video. Her work is influenced by Modernist design and architecture, nature, science fiction and technology. Through her practice Vanila explores the depth of the relationship between pleasure and austerity in the context of today’s excessive consumption and waste production.

Since 1992, the Australia Council for the Arts has partnered with Acme to provide London work/live residency opportunities for Australian visual artists. These residencies are located at Acme's Fire Station in Poplar, E14. Application and selection is undertaken directly by the Australia Council for the Arts.
