Nat Paton

Australia Council for the Arts Residency
2006

Nat Paton is an Australian visual artist. Her practice mainly consists of photographic self-portraiture focused on issues surrounding portrayal of the female form, often with an emphasis on associations with size. With strong performative qualities, her portraiture aims to humorously and unapologetically reclaim power over female physicality using the intrinsically seductive medium of photography.

Nat began exhibiting in 1993 and has worked on various scales from the photographic print to the billboard and in formats ranging from installation to performance. Her work PUNT, which focuses on the parallels between the diet and gambling industries, was shown at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2003) and Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (2004). Further solo exhibitions include < 3, at The Walls Gallery, Miami, Gold Coast (2014), with group exhibitions at the Museum of Brisbane (2019) and the Fremantle Arts Centre (2008).
