Jan Hietala

Jan Hietala is a Swedish artist and architectural theorist. His field of interest is in exploring how sociality influences the artistic process and its results. Jan holds a PhD from the Department of Critical Studies in Architecture, School of Architecture and the Built Environment, Royal Institute of Technology, and is a fellow of ResArch – The National School of Research in Architecture in Sweden. He has held academic positions as lecturer at The Royal Academy of Arts Schools London, and The Finnish Academy of Arts, and administrative positions at Färgfabriken Centre for Art and Architecture and Nordic Institute For Contemporary Art.
Jan Hietala has represented Sweden at international shows three times and Finland once. His work is included in collections such as the Swedish Public Art Agency, National Museum Stockholm and the Finnish Museum of Photography Helsingfors, and has received commissions from Moderna Museet Stockholm, Museum of Contemporary Art London and The Swedish Royal Academy of Science. He is also a holder of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s ten-year grant for the arts.
Iaspis, Sweden
Iaspis is the Swedish Arts Grants Committee's International Program supporting international exchange for practitioners in the areas of visual art, design, craft and architecture. Iaspis' activities aim to enable professionals to develop artistically and improve their working conditions by establishing international contacts between practitioners and professionals such as curators and critics and others active in the field.
