Mitchell Vowles

Jonathan Harvey Award
2018/19

Mitchell Vowles’ work is drawn from life experience and is explored through a number of different mediums. The work is constructed intuitively around pre-existing objects and their inherent or subjective meaning, and its form plays with self-referentiality and ideas of psychology. The artist’s personal narrative is explored fundamentally, whilst observations of consumerism, subculture and class are examined as a way to understand ourselves of products of our unique localities.

Mitchell was selected for the 2018/19 Jonathan Harvey by artist Rafal Zajko, Chris Jermyn (Founder, the Tomart Foundation), Lea O’Loughlin (Head of Residencies & Awards, Acme) and Charlie Coffey (Residencies & Awards Manager, Acme) from a shortlist of six BA graduate artists from Camberwell College of Arts, Chelsea College of Arts and Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts London.

Jonathan Harvey Award

The Jonathan Harvey Award is a partnership between Acme, the Tomart Foundation and University of the Arts London. With the goal of providing a bridge between college and professional practice, the award includes a bursary, rent-free studio space and a mentoring programme tailored specifically to the graduate’s practice. Recipients of Acme’s Graduate Award Programme occupy shared and adjacent studio space in order to foster and encourage a greater degree of peer support and an environment of growth, risk-taking and excellence.
